Getting started with SlowRamp

Start with a clip you want to slow down or reframe. You can preview your changes before exporting a new video for your edit.

Edit your first clip

  1. 1. Open a video

    Drag a MOV, MP4, or M4V into SlowRamp, or press Command–O to choose one. To keep just part of the clip, move the playhead and use Q to set the start and W to set the end.

  2. 2. Adjust the speed curve

    Add points to the Speed curve and drag them to change the speed and timing. Use Smooth to make transitions more gradual. You can also choose a ramp preset in the Motion inspector. Audio changes speed and pitch along with the video.

  3. 3. Preview super slow motion

    Enable Optical Flow on a supported Mac, select the section you want to slow down, and render a preview. This lets you inspect the extra frames before exporting. Sections you haven’t rendered play using the original frames.

  4. 4. Set the center keyframes

    In Framing, turn on Enable crop and choose an aspect ratio. Move to a point in the clip and drag the crop over your subject. Repeat where the subject changes position. Adjust the points in the Framing curve and use Glide to smooth the movement.

  5. 5. Export your video

    Choose Export and save the result as a new video. Import that file into your video editor to continue your edit. SlowRamp saves your project so you can return and make changes later.

System requirements

Mac
macOS 14 or later. Optical Flow requires a supported Apple silicon Mac running macOS 15.4 or later. Original Frames mode is available on macOS 14.
Video files
MOV, MP4, and M4V, including H.264, HEVC, and ProRes. SlowRamp preserves supported source formats and colour information; if a codec needs conversion, the app asks before exporting with HEVC.
Vertical crops
Choose 9:16, 1:1, or 4:5. The source must be wider than the crop. Crop export currently requires a source without rotation metadata.

If the preview needs adjusting

Slow motion looks distorted

Fast movement, motion blur, and objects crossing each other can confuse Optical Flow. Try a shorter section and render it again, or use Original Frames for that part of the clip.

The crop moves away from your subject

Add or move a center keyframe where the framing goes off course. If you used Track subject, check the whole result: automatic tracking can drift or lose the subject. Manual keyframes let you correct those sections.

You moved the original video

Open the saved project and relink it to the video’s new location. Your edits are stored in the project.

Licence help

Your Polar purchase email contains your licence key and a link to the customer portal. Use the portal to find your download or manage activations.

Connect to the internet when activating SlowRamp. After activation you can work offline, with periodic online verification. If verification fails, reconnect and choose Retry verification. You can verify your licence or deactivate this Mac in Settings.
